Hey there! A little about me…

I’m a machine learning engineer / applied scientist.

I love taking ML products through the entire development cycle: from research and development to system architecture design and model maintenance. My ML experiences have made me a bit of a generalist. I’ve led projects leveraging deep learning, causal modeling, and reinforcement learning. I’m currently focused on online / continuous learning.

I’m a stereotypical geek.

Wound up in engineering because I love math and science. I enjoy playing video games and enjoy watching competitive video games just as much. I studied Japanese in college and am constantly telling myself to pick it back up again.

I always appreciate a good story. My favorite books, movies, and music span all sorts of styles. I love works that have a bold, unique, and consistent creative vision.

I’m a pet owner.

I have a cat and dog, named Chef and Ravioli respectively.

And I’m going to try and write more in 2022.

I have a nasty habit of talking to myself. I can do it for hours. Figured I might as well jot down my thoughts somewhere so others see what I’m always muttering about.

 Brief Professional Background

  • 2019->: Machine learning engineer on Lyft’s Applied Machine Learning team. Now focused on continual learning for ETA and reinforcement learning for dispatch and pricing. Past projects include causal modeling for cancel policies and self-attention-based deep learning for destination recommendation.

  • 2016-2019: Machine learning engineer for startup Omniscience. Developed a novel deep learning solution to document information extraction, one of the components of this patent. Developed a distributed random forest that scales well with tree depth and handles missing features.

  • 2015-2016: Applied Science for Walt Disney Imagineering. Solved material science problems faced by the design and construction of attractions for Animal Kingdom’s Pandora - The World of Avatar. Researched novel methods for quickly fabricating animatronic faces.

  • 2011-2015: Undergrad at Stanford University. Studied Chemical Engineering and Computer Science. Internships in synthetic biotechnology and battery research.
